 Tank Deck Control Room

From this compartment the operation of the bow doors, bow ramp and tank deck blowers are controlled.  Below is a picture of the station where all of this machinery could be operated from.  Under the window, which looks into the forward part of the tank deck, there are three identical switch controls.  These rocker type switches control the operation of the doors and ramp.  The panel, to the right of the three switches, controls a series of traffic lights which would signal the drivers of the vehicles.  The large panel to the right of the window controls and shows the status of the tank deck blowers.

This photo shows the forward part on the tank deck control room.  The shaft running through the picture is where the anchor chain passes from the chain locker to the main deck and the capstan and anchor windlass.  The large motor in the overhead is the windlass.  The forward hatch leads to the port bow door machinery room.
